For what it's worth, the engine is a 320 cu. in. from a Roadmaster chassis. The valve cover should measure about 35 in. long.
Doug
There's a running 320 on Ebay right now in Minnesota.

Go to Bonneville, The Great White Dyno, and look and listen for yourself. A word of caution, though, Salt fever is highly contagous. :clonk:

After the car broke a lifter and we didn't have any luck locating a replacement in time, we had a little downtime and took some pictures. Going back in a couple of weeks for World of Speed with high...
Well, Speed Week is done for this year. We didn't have a bad experience. Last year we had a best run of 242 mph, and this year we picked up the pace and had a best time of 253mph. We were shooting...
We are packed and ready. Leaving for the Salt assault on Thursday.:shifter:
How was "Back to the 50's?
Doug
Well, the time has come again. We are loading the Lakester into the trailer for Speed Week tomorrow. Lots of changes this year looking to crack 260 mph. this year. We will cover the rear wheels for...
Here is a source of parts for many years and body styles of old Buicks. He has many parts cars. Reggie's Rod Shop, Billings , Mt.

According to the 1950 shop manual that combination should have a 3.90-1 rear gear ratio with an optional ratio of 3.60-1. With whatever tire you have on the car you can calculate your cruising road...
Magnus,
I was apparently wrong. I found a discussion about frame numbers and there apparently is one. If you read through this link, they say you can find it on the frame rail on the driver's...
Magnus,
I just went to a 1971 original Buick chassis service manual and it states that the tag by the windshield is the official serial number location to be used for licensing and titleing....
Jens,:D I think there was a translation error. When he referred to an "olds" base, I think he was referring to the vernacular for Oldsmobile. Noe old [like me].

Just a note about carbs. If anybody is serious about "showroom" carbs, check out this company. www.hotrodcarbs.com . Produce some gorgeous stuff. [not cheap].

As I recall, the water temp. bulb retainer thread is 5/8 -18. [5/8 fine bolt thread].

I think that you are probably right about it going between the dampener and the gear, but you could probably lay a straight edge across the cam gear and the crank gear and see how the alignment is....
Beautiful project. Keep sending pictures. The bellhousing is super overkill. Very nice.

Thanks, I thought it was me. I sent it to several friends and told them to turn their laptop on it's side to watch, and they said it played fine for them. I went back and it was correct. Sounds...
Great job on the engine. Awesome sound. I viewed it on my laptop so I could turn it on it's side because my neck got tired. I tried to watch it on the desktop but it's harder to turn the monitor on...
Here's your dilema. All of the factory engines [350,400,455] had nylon cam gear teeth. If it's never been changed that's what it will have. All of the aftermarket cam gears that I'm aware of had...
Until somebody makes a cam blank that can accept a roller profile I don't see much advantage for all of the work. If you can get a roller profile done, then you need more valve spring pressure, then...
But we live in Montana. Might be a long commute.:D

If you go to Facebook and look at Salt Cat Racing, there is an album of pictures. Frank's 51 Roadmaster has Jag front and rear. Air bags in the front. Twin turbo straight 8. He's been driving it...
A few years ago I saw a couple of 47-48 Roadmasters done with Camaro leaf spring setups. Very simple and looked really easy to setup. I haven't tried it, but I know the guy said he was amazed how...
