There is no way to clock it wrong. Are you sure you got YOUR unit back? The Corvair starter looks real similar to an untrained eye, maybe they gave you a replacement?
Welcome from the Spokane area! I have a mild 430 still in the crate never fired,GSCA headers,T-400 & 8.5 posi to bolt into that 67 if your interested ;)
Looks like homegrown to me.Pretty cool!:jeez:
Your calling this a 67 GS Special....all 67 GS 340 cars are Specials & kinda hard to find.Is it infact one of these cars? If so,you might consider keeping the 340 instead of doing a 350 swap.Post a...
Sanderson does still make the headers for the 340.

But for the money,I don't think you'll see much...
That's my motor Steve posted.:waving: It's actually a 67 340 ( from a Le Sabre) with 300 rocker covers. It's in my '65 Special. But,your swap should bolt right in,you just need to get the angle of the...
Did you unhook your battery cable(s) with the tender on it?
Daves website is FUBAR as in gone.Last I heard he had someone else in the shop playing catch-up,like months behind. He didn't sound very enthusiastic about continuing.I know he was shot trying to stop...
You pull the 4 thrubolts out, remove the fan & pulley, slide the front housing up the shaft until it clears enough to rotate. Then reverse to reassemble.By looking at the back with the threaded ear at...
I get what he's asking Bob.How the motor would perform putting a 2bbl on a 10:25:1 or a 4bbl on a 9:0:1
And I have no idea.I don't know why you'd want to risk driveability for 2-3 mpg but someones...
Did they even make an aluminum 300-2 intake in '64? I've never seen one & been a 300 guy since 1975.
The 64 300-4 has aluminum heads & intake, any year 300-2 intake is cast iron, not compatible with the aluminum heads from what I've heard.
It's called a thin pillar coupe, not rare but different.
Add to the confusion...I have heard exhaust leaks that sound like lifter noise on the 300's Might be cracked or warped manifold since the 300 didn't use an exhaust gasket.

That's a great looking car! I like the painted roof AND the skirts.
That's got to be a $2K bumper to rechrome! Nice project ;)
Lots of complaints about FRAM oil filters failing, get something like Purolator or K&N.
Springs in the starter drive are collapsed. You need a new drive.
All 65 GS's had the battery on the driver side,Specials & Skylarks on the passenger. It could have been an manual transmission shifted on the column AKA 3-in-the-tree.
Sounds like you have a project...
While driving manually shift from 1st to second at hard throttle. If it shifts, check the vacuum line from the trans to the intake port.
It's your back-up light.

Sounds like collapsed springs in the drive. You can't test for that unless it's under load or you know what to look for.
The early 401-425 uses the same starter, long nose cone with NO spacer.
