When I get done with this car, I'll have to post a book with acknowledgments in the back to all the people who have provided excellent input in this motor, the Skylark's suspension, and on this one -...
Yep, we're the "other" Washington - but it's in reference to Washington DC, home of Obama and other political figures. :wavey:
thanks for the input - problem with googling "Turbo Buick" is all you get are black cars.... not that there's anything wrong with that, however, for some reason (which I'm sure I'll find out) people...
Okay - 1st Thank you Paul - you've been an amazing help, even though this build is far more complex because of your input (it's really a good thing).
I'm build a 455 for my Skylark (I'll do a...
I have a 71 455 that could fit the bill. It's a running motor, and I'm pulling it because it's blowing oil out of the rear main seal... and it has low oil pressure at idle despite doing all the TA...
forged pistons?
it looks like your 70 is a black version of my orange car.... any chance in your stack of parts you have a 70 Custom grill?
either of your results would be just fine . The motor that's in my car now is a 1971 that, upon fixing the low, oil pressure problem sprung a substantial leak out of the rear main. That...
I should have mentioned that (and you make a great point).... I have the "book", but I was curious what experiences other had.
About the cam, I'm torn - part of me wants the rumble (ala "Thumper"...
After a lot of considering, I've decided direction on my 455 build. Was going to go turbo, but the only way to reliably make turbo power includes a 6k block; I've decided the entry price is just too...
Didn't like Pinks, liked Pinks all out - that just sounds boring.
the calipers don't care what makes the fluid flow to them - just whether or not there is enough volume. On my 83 Chevrolet 4x4 truck, I put the same calipers on the back as are on the front wheels...
it could.... take a picture or two of where he messed with the choke and post it
okay, I see I wasn't terribly clear. Without the vacuum advance working, your motor will be sluggish. At idle, or at low-throttle positions the vacuum advance is working by advancing the timing -...
what they said above - I add - but do put a shift kit in the T350.
Dauntless 225 Buick - they put them in Jeeps from the beginning of time until last week (okay, I exaggerate a bit :D)
pictures would be helpful :)
There are a couple of Buick guys who are running in the F.A.S.T. class - only problem is they are loathe to fess up to all of their modifications.... from what I remember, though, they use late...
lol @ build for you - the point of the post was to encourage you to do it... building headers is not a complex or particularly difficult task. It requires a welder, some method of cutting the pipe,...
I'm confused about what you're looking for, if you disassemble the motor and take great pictures; reassembly is pretty much a snap (presuming good machine work).
Also, 215 Buick motors come in a...
to rephrase an old adage,
The quickest way to make a small fortune in automobiles is to start with a large one. You'll be at a small one soon enough.
I've made money on a few if I don't count...
let us know (with pictures if possible) of what you find
I'm pretty certain that the 71 manual on this site would have the same schematic

I'd certainly start with pulling the left valve cover, then wiggling (vertically and horizontally) the individual rockers when they are in a valve-closed position - there shouldn't be much movement...
wow, you're close to me (ish).
you should get an auto stethoscope to help you pinpoint the noise. If the motor didn't knock before it was stored, it probably is simply something stuck.
welcome aboard. Car shows are your friend - great place to meet people and get connections for building your own. As someone who mentors, I'll give you something to ponder.... there are lots of...
