What engine is it for?
Seems like I read in one of the threads on here that buick made a double groove pulley that was used on a bus.
The clutch release bearing in the second photo appears to be much longer than in the first.
Counter clockwise to remove the bolt. An impact wrench will take it right out. otherwise, use a long handled ratchet and smack it with a mallet a couple of times and the bolt should break loose.
Taking economy out of the equation is there any way to set the distributor so you don't have to use any vacuum.
Please let us know how it works out!
You are right, go to strombergs site, carb base with ported vac is part#9514VP.
Correct me if I'm wrong, I believe the I-8 ran ported vac, if a spacer is under the base wouldn't it be manifold vac?
Stromberg now offers a carb base with ported vac for the 97s for $150.
1st of 8 read the thread titled ANYTHING NEW FROM THE STRAIGHT 8 RODDERS. It is very long thread but full of info on the 263.
Wish some of the guys would start posting on this thread, there was always good info being added.
Yes but it is supposedly a PITA. Google rear main seal buick straight 8 on how to do it.
Pat, could you see how much your friend would want for the adapter, I'm sure a few guys on here would want one. I know I would.
Thanks, Randy
I think the color looks great! I see you have the spark plug cover. I've been looking for one but everyone seems to think they are made of gold.
Or the administrators will come on and tell you the same thing.
Place your ad in the classifieds where it belongs.
Ben is correct on all points.
There are 4 rings that go into the intake ports on the head. These are the gaskets that slide on them. They are your intake gaskets.
All 263 straight 8s have bearing inserts, use it, they are great motors.
I used hells gate flanges and built my own.
If it is a 248 the serial # started with 5568000-4, the 263 # started with 5628758-5 with the dynaflo. Hope this helps. By the way, did your buddy like the manifold? I liked what you did with the...
I found a picture of a flxable (spelling) bus straight 8 that had a wide belt 2 groove water pump pulley and a 3 groove crank pulley. the crank pulley had 1 pulley in the front and two behind it....
What years did the straight 8 have narrow crank and water pump pulleys? Also did they ever have a wide double pulley on the crank or water pump?
Pat, take it apart and clean it, it has a cork gasket behind the cover, you can buy or make one.
Since the head is already off why not take the parts to a machine shop and have the work done now. Save you from having to disassemble it again. They can remove the broken bolt also, plus the copper...
