Everything I've read, including a copy of the 1955 Engineering Features book, states that the '55 Special came with a 264 and all other models came with the 322. Horsepower ratings varied a bit...

Telriv, with all due respect and not intending to be in any manner, argumentative, but for historical accuracy purposes only, I've got to disagree. The 1940-1964 Buick Master Chassis Parts Book I...
"I used '63 because it kept the left hand threads on the left."
Are you refering to the lug-bolts? My '55 Model 48 Special has right-hand threads on both sides. Was there a mid-year change?
I'm using a new Carter AFB with electric choke and it's been working great got me for the past 6 or 7 years.
The 401 weighs 685#, so I'd guess the 322 would be pretty close to that figure.

You forgot one option......my garage !!
Although my '55 Special has non-power brakes under the floor, I've heard nothing good about the TreadleVac power brakes. I would convert to a more modern and safer dual master cylinder before I'd...
"M" stands for 1966. "MW" is the code for a 1966 425 cu. in. engine with a 4bbl carb.

wkillgs,
You were right in not letting the shop install hardened valve seats. Not only aren't they needed, but as your friend found out, the material between the valve seats and the water jacket is...

I believe the number cast in the manifold itself is different from the part number, so unless you have a NOS part with a factory tag listing the part number, the part number probably won't do you any...
I've got a Nailhead manifold, which I think is for a 401, but I'm not sure. I checked both a Buick Parts Manual and a Hollander's Interchange Manual, but they both seem to list part numbers, without...
Thanks for the suggestion, but Bob's Automobilia (as well as NAPA & CARS Inc.), only lists caps for '37 & newer Buicks.
Trying to help a friend find a radiator cap for his '36 Special, but can't find a listing. Is it the same as the '37? Anyone know where to get a '36 cap?
Thanks for any help you can provide....
Nope, the Roadmaster / Super bumpers are wider than the Special / Century bumpers.
I took it to mean he didn't have any EXTRA hinges for sale.

iddie,
I'm happy for you and admire your persistance in keeping after the problem until it was resolved. You're a guy I'd be proud to call a friend !!
:hurray:
Happy Buick motoring

I put a 401 into my '55 model 48 a couple of years ago. Tom is right on about the motor mounts. I made an adapter out of some 1/4" plate and used part of the original 322 mounts.
