Reinstalling the old one has the temp guage back to the way it was. Go figure... bad sensor maybe? I don't think the front fan is kicking on either, just the rear one.

Just checked fluid again and it was a bit low, added more fluid and also topped off the reserve container. I backed the sensor out a bit and let it idle for 10 min.
