As mentioned there is a 5 bolt & 6 bolt trans. top covers. The 5 bolt needs to be treated gingerly as the gears seem to be made of glass. If you can find a 6 bolt trans. just make sure the tailshaft...

A '64 Wildcat did NOT come out until '66 on 425's unless you added a '66 Q-Jet manifold & carb.
It's the kickdown/switch-pitch switch for a TH400 Trans.
It would make such a HUGE difference to use a newer "808" steering box. An "808" box from a '71-'76 Full size GM car would work wonders for the steering feel & bring the car to more modern...
Normally the glove box lock won't work because it only uses 3 of the 5 tumblers needed for the ignition, doors & trunk. Remove the door lock & have a key made for it that should coincide with ALL the...
One broken compression ring, either it be the top or second ring, would not be a cause of ZERO compression.
That was a guy from Mass. & true he was running 8K+. The springs being talked about were part of the "Rev" kit for the roller cams usually the "505".
I have the seals IN STOCK. $30.00 including shipping in the 48 with instructions & the sealer I use.
I have a darn near perfect grille from a '66 Wildcat. I think you also need the headlight doors to swap them over. Should be a bolt-in. My opinion, the Wildcat grille looks better than the LeSabre...
That spring we're talking about is so thin & flexible it really wouldn't hinder operation. As I stated I believe it was an anti-rattle spring.
I do have 2 '57's that I can check. BUT, there more trouble to remove than I can reasonably charge for them as they are still in the vehicles.
If it's not important try to use a '56/322. The 1st. yr. '53 is plagued with one yr. only parts & pieces. '56 is the most modern of the 322's.
It's ALL one piece from the gauge to the head. You need a replacement.
The torque tube DOES NOT have to be removed only jacked back.
Call me sometime & I can explain.

As far as I know that was supposed to be an anti-rattle spring.

That "310" on the air cleaner lid, if correct, identifies it as a 300CID engine with a 2bbl. carb.
I've been using BG products at my shop for 35+ yrs. As far as I'm concerned the BEST products going hands down as well as Lucas products.

One of his favorites was the '51 LeSabre.

Many have a problem with unzipping or re-zipping the zipper with the top fully up. Just raise the top a little to remove the stress/stretch & it will zip & unzip easily. MUCH BETTER than taking a...
I DIDN'T change the hubs at all. I used the aluminum drums as they were on the front. The inner bearing race, which is also the seal hub, needs to be cut to distance the drum out far enough for...
I've used aluminum drums on ALL four wheels of my '55 Special. I had manual brakes back then. They were SO much better I didn't feel a need for power. Of course back then I used the stock master as...
He's correct. A SBC ready to run & a "Nail" ready to run is about 50pds. heavier. Could shave some weight using one of MY Mini-Starters at 6lbs. 12 ozs. instead of close to 30pds. Could also shave...
Don't waste any more time or $$$ using all the diff. multiple INFERIOR timing covers. Get one from T/A performance. Rather costly but what isn't for a quality made USA part.
Sorry to say you'll be hard pressed to find something that's 60+ yrs. old that's a KNOWN good piece & get it on the cheap. The ONLY way that will happen is if someone is THROWING away parts & doesn't...
'57-'66 are the same. '53-'56 are the same except 3 bolt. Just for reference. When I installed a '59/401 in my '55 Special I removed the rubber from the plate that mounted to the engine for the '59....
