I paid $2.89.9 in Stephens City, Virginia (exit 307 on I-81, north end of the Shenandoah Valley) yesterday.
The OP was looking for a GOOD source. Sounds like you found a so-so source. :)
Assuming this Buick has hydraulic lifters, it sounds like one is sticking. Drain out one quart of oil and add one quart of Marvel Mystery Oil. That will free up any stuck lifters.
If you have going from a manual tranny 248 to a manual tranny 263, no problem. Same for DynaFlow to DynaFlow. The end of the crankshaft on a engine w/ a manual tranny is different from that of a...
"The car does look great and always turns heads but as most may know, its a dog."
Well, I owned a 1952 Super with the straight eight and DynaFlow transmission. I never considered her a dog, but a...
Welcome to the forum.
The '36 Buick is one of the best looking models from the 1930s.
The straight eight was no worse than any other engine from that time period.
I would check some of the...
aaron,
It looks like you have a 1951 model 52, which is the four door Riviera. Some time spent with a tape measure may save you some grief and heartache.
First off, the Buick straight eight is an OHV (overhead valve) engine, not a F head.
It's been a long time since I've owned an old Buick, but IIRC, the oil pressure is normal.
Not sure about...
Put a level on top of the valve cover. Sometimes, things that are on the level don't appear to be and at other times, things that appear to be on the level really aren't.
Life is like that too. :D
Sure glad those ad guys didn't back up a mite more. Buicks don't float!
Did anyone notice it didn't have a radio antennae?
I assume you have a manual tranny in your '53 Special. Straight eights with DynaFlows are adjusted to zero valve lash.
I hope you enjoy your "new" Buick.
My granddaddy's last car was a 1952 4 door Super Riviera. He bought it from his boss in 1954. His boss was the type that got a new car every two years. My...
"She's got the inline 8"
And that, by God, is what BELONGS under the hood.
Personally, I'd reinstall the straight eight. Anybody can own a V-8; very few have a straight eight.
I love straight eights, so I would prefer a Special.
Supers were the middle of the road Buick; fancier than a Special, yet lighter and less expensive than a Roadmaster.
Any old Buick from the...
Do you have just an engine or does it have a tranny already? A PowerGlide is a scaled down DynaFlow.
If you have just an engine, look at the flywheel. A straight eight for a manual transmission...
See if you can find an interchange book. The large bodied GM cars shared many parts. The senior Olds windows should fit too.
The 1946-1948 cars were all rehashed 1942s, due to WW II. There was a...
No paint; just metal colored.
The style number indicates that you have a two door hardtop Roadmaster. It should read "MOD. 76-R".
According to page 465, section 13-1, of my original 1952 shop manual, this plate should be...
Going down to the frame can get expensive.
IMHO, for a daily driver, I would rebuild the transmission, fix the engine oil leaks, replace the wiring harness (if necessary), go over the brake...
Probably not, without some work. The Special and Roadmaster were built on two different bodies.
A good body and fender man could tell you if it is practical to try and modify them.
...
"It seems to me that i would have to remove the head in order to remove the lifters,, correct?"
Nope. Go to section 2-15 in the 1952 shop manual (it's on-line here). Remove the push rod and then...
Is there enough room between the carb and the hood for the Olds/Caddy air cleaner? If so, I imagine that a split collar with a screw tightener could be made from aluminum that would fit inside of the...
The Series 40 (Special) was always the economy Buick. It generally shared bodies with Cheverlot, Olds, and Pontiac. The Series 50 (Super) was the mid priced Buick. It featured upgrades from the...
"Worst case is that you might experience the water temperature rising into the red area of the temperature gauge faster in hot summer stop-n-go traffic (due to decreased water quantity).
And if that...
