Nice idea to split the load! I am going to pull the 10 gauge main feed wire from the starter battery post and run that circuit thru a continuous duty solenoid activated by a hidden toggle switch....
I will definitely let everyone know how it drives and performs as soon as I drive it. Going to the mechanical shop next week for exhaust and alignment.
I would like to run the starter circuit and all thru this continuous duty solenoid. Driver will flip a toggle switch in the car to connect battery. Similar to this one, but it is 12 Volt....
Hi,
Anyone here using a continuous duty solenoid for a battery disconnect. If so - where can I purchase one that will hold up to the amperage draw of a 6 volt straight 8 ?
First of all, not positive it is repaired. Secondly, I rationalize it by the car must me engineered to have the air cleaner on if you are going to free rev it at high rpms. When the backfire was...
I don't believe it is still doing it. It was loud and you could feel the engine miss at the same time, and now none of that.
Hi,
Wanted to thank all who replied to this thread !
Today, I put the air cleaner on, then warmed up the engine, then brought it up to 3000 rpm and guess what! NO BACKFIRE/POP Thru carb!!!
I...
I very much appreciate your comments!
I have tried disconnecting the vacuum advance and playing around with moving the dist. both advanced and retarded. No change in backfire.
Hope to put it on...
I also don't know. The plan right now is to finish assembly of the rest of the car, then take it into my
mechanical shop for wheel alignment and new exhaust system. While it is in there, I can...
Yes, I checked for inner valve springs yesterday when I checked for the valve spring shims/washers.
I am glad to get the answer to my question on if anyone has run their straight 8 to 3000rpm with no load.
Entire new wiring harness installed from vendor YNZ. No shorts inside or out of the...
Thank you for not giving up on me.
I believe valves are correctly ground. The machinist that did this job always does great work on all my builds.
Not been sitting with water in intake. always...
Talked to a straight owner today, and he said his pops thru carb while driving and holding a steady speed. I think he may have a breaker plate sticking with the ***** binding in the dist. I shared...
Have opened many a beer and started over at least four or five times. I have been doing this profession since 1969 and have been led astray many many times. Like tracing wiring for an open circuit...
Thanks for the chart. All ideas on chart have been covered. May be able to use chart in future tho.
Yes, everything has been done with no load.
I have not assembled the car enuf to drive yet.
Sorry if something I said misled you.
Yes, I torqued head from center out as the manual states. I also have done a compression test and leak down test. Both ok.
Don't have tool to test temperature of runners.
Am I chasing something...
Thanks for the idea.
valve clearance specs is 017 so I tried 020 Still backfires thru carb not sure about exh
smooth at idle 450 rpm
disassembled both carbs and sprayed carb cleaner thru all...
Great idea !
In just went to the shop and tried the exhaust flap in both positions, same problem.
The exh heat valve is brand new and it is sticking badly ! That will be another issue.
Also...
I have cranked the engine over by hand and watched all the rockers. Cannot notice any flat lobes or see any broken valve springs. And if it was a flat lobe, or broken or weak spring, wouldn't you...
Thank you for the article and picture. That is exactly how I set it up. But now what? It still backfires.
This morning, I was wondering if maybe the original muffler that I re-used was partially...
OK, Can the shop manual picture be wrong? It shows that there are 10 teeth from the cam gear mark and the crank gear mark. Maybe should show 12 teeth? That would be 10 teeth between the gear...
All great ideas. Problem did change after new cam setting. Originally backfired at 1800 rpm, now backfires at 3000 rpm.
Set the timing chain as the manual states, also as the picture in the manual...
I found some black weather stripping from ACE Hardware that matches perfect.
