I've not done a 58, although I've helped my dad on his 55 and done a relocation on my 54 Studebaker truck.
What I've learned (hope it helps)
1) I should have simply gone with hydroboost and...
if it makes you feel any better - here's a brief(ish) history of mine.... it certainly isn't smooth sailing no matter how experienced you are
...
Boy, tough one to diagnose from here in Seattle... but I'll give you a couple things to look at.
1) putting the Pertronix kit on the car probably didn't do anything to your timing; however, I'd...
And once you get that manual, look at how to set timing.
However, if you want a guess at a diagnosis, we need more information (you did a great job - but as usual more in needed). Does it...
I like how clean the install of your master cylinder looks.
does the brake hose rub on the spindle?
where do you want to mount the master cylinder? How much work do you want to do? Almost anything can be adapted, it just depends on how much work you want (or need) to do....
my deciding factor for the smaller motor/turbo is based in my experience with my 06 GTO.... in the wet, 1st gear is basically useless, and you have to be really careful through 5th gear. Something...
ya lost me.... with all things being equal, what compression ratio would result from simply bolting the older heads on a newer engine. I understand that they got the new ratio from changing the...
I'm in the turbo camp - I've been waiting for a 65 to pop up and add to my fleet.... it will get a GNX 231 turbo motor... the 61-64 (both body styles) are so light that a turbo 231 would make that...
Have you figured out what the compression ratio is with the earlier heads? I know the stock 455 in 1976 had like 120cc heads; the older heads were IIRC 68cc.... it'd obviously help it out from its...
I've looked at this for quite awhile and I just don't know.... Is it possible to change the seal without completely removing the pan (while it's in the car).... anyone able to help?
chevy full roller - mostly because I have some from a blown-up, blown sbc
that would require 16x more accuracy that I have yet to achieve :D
IIRC the mopar rockers (for old hemi motors) have adjusters that might be adaptable....
the best compliment I get is no one notices that they are custom headers :finish:
I don't remember saying it'd be easy :D
the reason I said I'd need to think and take a picture - I suspect I'll have to machine off the stands to get the plate low enough to achieve proper...
4130 will probably be the right choice, I'm still not quite picturing in my mind how to get the right geometry.... I'll post a picture tomorrow of the heads to demonstrate my confusion.
so here are the completed headers

maybe it was hooker who made the other headers? dunno, the cheapest I found when I did these headers was ~$750. In either case, I have less than 200 in these headers...
Also, these headers are 2...
I just might - thanks :bgrin:
I did that when I built headers for my 500 caddy powered studebaker truck. In the end, I had thinner metal, and more time making it fit (and it hung too low).... so the answer is yes and no, yes -...
they are steel and rubber.... the weld trick doesn't work for that :bgrin:
Interesting how he gets the rubber out - but there's no way that's happening in the car without a huge amount of blood...
I want to run solid rollers....
I started a thread on the headers...
apparently I'm over quota, so I'll post the rest later....

when I got to the collector, I realized that I couldn't make all the bends in the space available
