Crankshaft counterweight groove
I have my 425 torn down and noticed a groove on the crankshaft counterweight just above the oil pump. The patina on the groove makes it look like it was freshly cut. But there was nothing obvious to indicate failure induced wear. There is less than 1/4" clearance between the counterweight and the pump mounting bolts. The bolt heads show no wear. Is this a designed machine clearance to clear the pump bolts or do I have an interference problem (loose bolt?) that created (wore) the grooves? FWIW the pump was replaced due to failure before I owned the vehicle but I don't know how catastrophic the failure was. I don't know if I need to address this issue before continuing with the rebuild. Any advice?
Thanks in advance for your input
