'56 Brake Pedal Removal

OK, either I'm an idiot or the manual is conveniently omitting something. I have completely stripped the car down and am on the last part before I take the body off - removing the steering column.

However, to remove the steering column, I need to remove the brake pedal. The manual states:

"Disconnect pushrod from brake pedal. Remove eccentric pedal pivot bolt and remove pedal."

The problem is that the bolt will not come out. I've pounded on it, turned it, twisted it, talked to it, yelled at and cursed at it, but it will not come out.

Does anybody know the secret for removing this thing, it's driving me CRAZY!
