Straight 8 Manual Gearbox lengths
I recently bought a 263 and manual gearbox to replace the tired 248 and manual gearbox. Unfortunately I sold the old motor and box before I got the new one mounted. I have just discovered that there is about a 40mm gap between the torque tube and the new gearbox. I measured the new box at aprrox 385mm between the engine and the end plate and I am wondering if there were different lengths of gearbox. My original was a 1937 248, the new one is a 263, but I do not know the age. It was also supposed to have come out of a 1937 car as well, but I am beginning to have my doubts. Anybody out there with suggestions?
