I found a '63 401 to use in my '64 Riviera but now I'm wondering if it will fit the 64 trans. The casting number page on buicks.net doesn't open for me anymore-did I do soething wrong?

No, the hole in the rear of the crank to support the torque converter is much too large on a DynaFlow Trans. as opposed to a TH400. But, adapters are made to do exactly what you need. You grind the large flange off the rear of the crank & install the adapter. Then all you need is a '64-'66 starter, or you could make a shim & shim out the '63 starter about a 1/4"

Swap it over, but the adapter is the easier way to go. You will also need a flexplate for a '64-'66. I have & can get ANY of the various adapters needed.
Found a 798 crank in the core yard.
