what is the best way to remove a damaged freeze plug? when replacing it, is any kind of sealent needed or do you just pound the new one in? the car is a 52 special. the plug is just under the manifold. thanks in advance.

Most just drill it out with a 3/8 or 1/2 inch drill then use a screwdriver to pull it out. You shoud then run a wheel cylinder hone in the hole to clean it up, and use some sealant. The recommended stuff it the stuff that looks like molasses for sealing bolts etc.
i've seen some freeze plugs come with a sealant already applied. no need for anything else.
