In 1955 I believe it was only 4 way. Forward, back, up & down.

ALSO, IF I remember correctly it was hydraulic operated with brake fluid originally.

I posted that it was a 56 Roadmaster....not a 55

The switch is a one-year-only part, GM no 4683840. It was used on '56 Buicks and Pontiacs. Here is a remanufactured unit that came up on eBay:

Here is a very hard to find 6 way power seat switch.

Only one other used example turned up on eBay at the same price as the remanufactured one.

The same switch was used on 57-58 Osmobiles, Cadillacs Pontiacs, and Buicks.
I found the exact same switch (same part number) for $269
