Soot and resistance: 1966 Electra 403

I'm ready to call a chimney sweep! I've got so much soot on the ground. Four out of six plugs have soot, but not a terrible amount. Fuel-wise everything is more or less dialed in so I don't think it's running rich. Timing good, and dwell is correct (pretty sure on dwell). Plugs are all gapped correctly. And it runs smoothly from warm idle to highway speed. I do have some out of spec resistance measurements: Coil Primary is 1.9, should be 1.28 to 1.42. (The Coil Secondary is between the spec of 7200-9500.) ; Resistance Wire appears to be 3 ohms, well above the 1.8 ohms. BUT, I'm not sure I'm measuring right: I am measuring between the ignition end of the braided wire to the coil. At the coil, the wire appears to be pink.
Where to next? The fact that I have two good looking plugs points to the distributor, no? But I don't really know what the wrong resistance numbers should do. I have a "replace your points" kit but wanted to get things right first.
