New Guy

I just bought a 1961 Buick Invite 4 door hardtop with a 401. I'm hoping this is not a "common" car to see at midwest car shows. I've started researching, hoping to get some help from this group.

Apparently auto correct is on. I bought an Invicta, need help with decoding the VIN (6H4019634) from this site it seems the car was built in Kansas. I know the motor is not original (4J4016624). Also the body tag BK 2154? The car has PS, PB, and AC wondering if anyone knows if these were standard on the Invicta, or options?

On the VIN:
6 = series - Invicta
H = year - 1961
4 = assembly plant - Kansas City
019634 = sequential build number, starts at 001001

On the motor (same as the VIN of the donor car):
4 = LeSabre
J = 1963
4= Kansas City
016624 = sequential build number

To learn engine rating, we need the engine production code number stamped on the right side of the block similar to the engine serial number on the left side. Format will be something like JS123. It is a 401 with 2bbl low compression, 2bbl high compression, or 4bbl high compression rating.

On the body:
BK = built in KC
2154 = 2154th Invicta 4 dr HT built at KC

PS, PB, AC were all optional on the Invicta. Attached is a list of the standard features from the dealer brochure.

I believe the number is JT508. Do you know if having skirts caused Buick to use different hubcaps, mine are mismatched (front and rear). Thanks for all of the info this is a new venture for me, and I need all the help I can get.

The JT indicates it is the 4bbl high compression rating - same as the '61 Invicta original motor. HP is 325; compression ratio is 10.25 (requires premium fuel). 508 is the day and shift when built.

Fender skirts were not a factory item on the '61s. Those must be an aftermarket addition. Invicta standard wheel covers were the deluxe type. All four would be the same. The super deluxe type as used on the Electra 225 were optional (see attached photos from dealer brochure).

Whatever you need, just ask away.
