I am looking for pictures of the engine compartment with the correct connection of the radiator of the cabin, the starter system on the carburettor and finally the windscreen washer.

> Starter system is deconnected,
> The radiator seems shunted, maybe is HS...
> The windscreen washer was deleted on my car.

I've just bought this car.
I have bought the manual services from Los Angeles but with the Codiv I don't know when I will receive it in France.

Many thanks!

Here are some drawings of the washer assembly from the 1963 Buick Special/Skylark Chassis Service Manual. Hope this is the information you need.

Here are some pages regarding the heater from the chassis service manual and the master parts book.

Typically when a new owner finds the cabin radiator (heater core) disconnected from the engine, it means the heater core developed a leak inside the cabin.

It is not clear what views you need of the carburetor. Some earlier Buicks had electrical wiring from the starter motor circuit attached to the carburetor. The wiring was used to start the car by depressing the accelerator pedal. This feature and the wiring were discontinued after 1960.

I have included some views of the carburetor and the linkages attached to the carburetor. I looked at your engine photo from the May 14 post and did not see anything disconnected at the carburetor.

One small piece is missing from the top of the carburetor. It is the cap of the bowl vent. It can be seen in the photo (Figure 3-23) from the shop manual.

1963 Skylarks built for use in the US were equipped with a 4-barrel Rochester carburetor. That engine had a compression ratio of 11:1. Your car has the 2-barrel Rochester carb. It may be equipped with the low-compression export-only engine which used the 2-barrel.

OK this evening I removed my mechanical fuel pump because I have an electric pump.
I repaired my starter with your plan: I changed a vacuum pipe that was dead, then I cleaned and adjusted my dashpot.
It works well.
Tomorrow I'm going to take apart my heating system.

On my heating system, the valve for temperature control is not an original part. It's very hard to move.
Is it possible to find one somewhere?
Yes, here is one item offered for sale:

The GM part number is 3151404. Aftermarket valve suppliers use the number H1242. This part was used on the following cars:

1961-63 Buick Special and Skylark with V8
1961-63 Oldsmobile F-85 and Cutlass

Thanks TODD, with the reference H1242 i found another reference 5-305 at 30 $ on Ebay.

Thanks Todd, I haven't found a new heating radiator somewere with the reference 3148545, I found an old one but not a new one.
I need to change mine.
Can I use another radiator with similar dimensions? Can you give me some advice?

I'm curious. What kind of car do you have?

One idea would be to take your defective core to a local radiator repair shop. Possibly they can repair it or install a new core element. Perhaps they could even fabricate a new heater core assembly from new components. Though it is small, work could be difficult and cost as much as working on the main radiator.

Purchasing a used core is another possibility. I have never had one of these fail--do not know what the reliability would be for a used part. It would be reasonable to expect a salvage yard to give a short warranty of say 10 or 30 days on a used core. Collecting on the warranty would not be worthwhile considering having to ship it back from France. A Google search for "parting 1963 Skylark" etc should locate some cars available for parts.

A reader last year was asking questions about replacing his heater core in a 1962 Special. Contacting him might reveal a source for a heater core:

Here is a 2006 catalog of various types of heater cores including dimensions: Google "Carquest heater core application guide" As you will see, the layout of the 63 Skylark heater core is fairly unusual. Maybe there is another European catalog with more favorable choices?

Part of the problem is there aren't any similar cars before or after the 1961-63 General Motors Y-bodies that share common parts. The Buick Special/Skylark and the Olds F-85/Cutlass do have some commonality. The Pontiac Tempest/LeMans has a completely different heater design however. Collector interest in these cars does not appear sufficient to interest a manufacturer in making these heater cores again.

I have 2-Cadillac Sedan de Villes, a '65 and '76. Also 2-Packards, a '55 and '56 and a '76 Oldsmobile Delta 88 Royale. My daily driver is an '05 Ford E350 van with a V10.

Thanks Todd,
Whaou, you have lot of car!
For me, It's my first experience with American car!
This morning I was at a special garage for rebuilt my gearbox, I have a big oil leak...
The mechanic who has an olds F85 told me that my engine heats to (95°C = 203°F). In same conditions, this olds with the same motor of mine do 78 °C with an aluminum radiator! He say I must change my radiator or find a person to rebuild it. So I have 2 radiators to find or rebuilt...
Do you know if it's possible to find new motor radiator in ad?

On this car I have the original radio AM. It work well but in France we have only one station in AM now. Do you now if it's possible to convert in FM?
