My 1st Skylark

Good luck. Let us know how it goes!

And just because you mentioned "radio", here's what I find for that. Wiring differs for mono vs Stereo option. Interesting! Looks like in 1980 you could get a factory Citizen's Band radio option, at least in the USA.

I found a manual for my Skylark. Ive ordered, but its for model '82, mine from '80......I hope its most the same :)

Its an online version and now Im waiting for it they approved and send me the download link.

@bittmann , thx for the radio diagram, but there are wires from back, left and right sides....they cut all off. Always asking myself which idiots do that.

The fan is working! There is a thermo sensor under the airfilter in front. Ordered a new 1 and this problem is over.

The radio I dont care and the wiper problem is ok. When it rains on and when it stops rain pull over and stop the engine, wiper stops, start car and go on driving, hahaha.

Thx all for help!

Wiper problem solved! Bolts were to lose so there was resistance in the motor, yeehaaaa!

They told me it was a ground problem 100% and all 3 bolts have ground also. It's a problem with all american cars, so let there be ground!

I had my 1st car show last sunday and it was fun. Saturday I go to my 2nd. Got more thrust in the car now then before and it rides awesome. Im a happy man.

Hello Buickers,

Next problem knocks on door;

Yesterday i was driving with my Buick and stopped the car, ignition off, keys out and the 'VOLTS' light stays on RED. I was at a restaurant ant could'nt do nothing. So we eat and came back, light still red. So I went to my moms house and same again, red light.

After a while I had to drive home, still red and than the light stays red wile running. Then the left and right blinkers didnt blink but they stay on when i want change lane. Little nervus i came home, red light stays on again.

------------------------

Today I was googling for this problem and made a plan;

1) Battery was empty so now on a pro loader, must be full in about 1 hour by now (offcourse + and - lose)
2) When full I go messure, also the Volage from alternator, must be 14,4/14,8 V
3) Dissamble alternator, look for regulator.

With google I come on regulator, but asking what that has todo with blinkers......

Maybe this is a known problem?

I let you guys know what I found and messured, every idea = very welcome

------------------------------

Conclusion;

1) New battery needed and problem with the VOLTS light over. When connected the battery, first the light was on but after a start it went off.
2) I think also need an alternator because he throws back between 16,2 and 16,9 Volt back to battery

edit

Alternator not good (after research) so i took it out. Tomorrow I've to buy another. I had a Delco Remy in the Buick.

If you can find in our archived posts, there is a library of radio electric diagrams i posted for everyone to know about. You don't pay for the diagrams. Its Free, but you have to look, read one by one until you match it because its that many listed. I found the source by looking under auto radio repair electrical diagrams instead of looking exclusively for my circuit to my car.

I dissambled the alternator. There's a regulator in it and thats the one I've to replace. Dont need to buy a new alternator (130 euro).

Hmmm, Now iso 17 V its 12,09 V. VOLTS light 1/2 (dimming). Messured all good, Battery 13,35V and all connectors have good ground and same 13,35 Volt on Alternator. So I think have to replace alternator. So Volts on battery drops from 13,35 to 12,08 V

My blinking lights (turn L+R) also doing wierd now, they dont blink like before. Stays on for 5 sec. then blink, stays on, repeats....

That may be the easiest way forward. Depending on cost, it may be worth skipping to the end and buying a known-good replacement.

If you want to attempt to repair, look for instructions on how to check the diodes, how to check the armature, brushes, etc. It MIGHT be something that will be easily apparent, once you find it!

Slow blinking...the flashers in these cars rely on current to actuate. You remember how if you have a burned-out bulb, they stop blinking correctly? Maybe the high voltage has burned out some bulbs... it's worth checking.

If you have low voltage, it's similar...it takes much longer for the lower current to trip the blinker "off", but the time "off" will be the same as before. I suspect if you ensure you have no burned-out bulbs and if you fix your charging system so you can maintain ~13.6v or better while running - it will be ok.

And if not, just replace the flasher!

@bittmann , yeah, battery loading now, did that for 100% sure, check check double check.

I also think Its a 'little' thing, but the parts come from USA and I live in Netherlands then its like, 1 part is 9,73 Dollar and I've to pay 25,20 Euro. Better stop 'gabling' parts and do it good buy a new alternator. Hope to find 1 in The Netherlands, must be around 131 euro, saw 1 on the internet dealer here.

Maybe with full battery lights come back blinking. If not I'll check your tip 1st, thanks!

btw a 2nd hands alternator in USA about 55 dollar and then same problem, Ive to pay about 155 Euro.

VOLTS light is off now, blinkers are working, 14,4 Volts from alternator after replace a new one. Problems over.

I think the new regulator I ordered isn't good, thats why had 16,9 Volts from alternator. In the manual with the alternator sais , high volgae = regulator, so try get money back.

Hahaha, blinkers (lol) ....must be indicators......turn left, turn right and alarm lights :D
