Took blown piston to Syracuse crank business and he diagnosed hole from preignition damage and said it probably came from bad timing from distributor So he has old working Sum distributor checking machine to help with repair. New piston was installed onto connecting rod there also. So now starting reassembly

Sometimes the limiter in the mechanical advance falls out and there is too much advance leading to detonation. Have your guy check for the limiter and the right advance curve in the distributor on his machine. The curve is available in the chassis manuals here.

Well got back distributor and centrifugal advance was giving full advance at1000 rpm. Vacuum advance not working bleeding air into carb. New vacuum archer soon

Engine reassembly finished Thursday started right up drove it 10 miles so far. Sounds fine. Old Buicks can be fixed. After 50 miles will change oil and filter.
