Hidden VIN Number

Has anyone information as to where else I can find the VIN number on my 1955 Buick? I was informed that there should be a VIN stamped on the frame but can't seem to find it.

I had a look at my '54, '55, and '57 chassis manuals ( no '56 :( ), and they do not mention the stamping on the frame which existed until at least '52. So your car may not have a frame stamping (someone, like TODD) may explain in more detail. This may mean that it falls into a group of cars which used the engine number for the VIN. Sorry, I don't know the history of this stuff, but I would find a good outline interesting.

There are some pictures in these threads:

Earlier years had it stamped in this location.

Thanks for the reply but mine is not there either. Any other location to look? I've been up and down the frame on a lift and can't find any stamping of the VIN. Just so everyone is aware, this frame does not look like it has been abused. No grinding occurred.
There are some stamps on the frame but no Vin number.
Any other thoughts?

When the body is still in place, guys have sometimes found the VIN by sliding a mirror in between the top of frame and the body. A strong light also helps.
