HELP REGARDING 1961 INVICTA CONVERTIBLE ENGINE

Hi Everyone

A new menber from France.

I have a splendid project to restored an 100% original 1961 invicta convertible sold new in France in 61. It's a barn find, stocked for more than 30 years now in the countryside.
Very happy to start this project !

The issue I have is with the Block, it has a huge crack all along the block on one side, due to a very cold winter 25 years ago, and water aws in the cooling system at the time....
Regarding the size of the crack a simple weld is not possible.
That's why I'm looking for an original block.
I may find one but want to be sure thats the blocks are the same.
The block number of my invicta is : 6H 1012022.

The block I found come from an 62 electra 225, engine block number : 1849046 2A; cylinder head number 1196914.

If anyone can help me with this !
Just a beginner in the Buick World !

Some photos of the invicta ;)
And an other photos from the block I found for sale.

6H1012022 = 6 - Invicta series, H - 1961, 1 - Flint, MI assembly plant, 012022 - individual vehicle serial number. This is stamped on the front left valley pan rail of your engine as well as on the tag pictured.

1849046 is not on the list of Nailhead head casting numbers. 1349046 (maybe a mistake reading the number) is an external casting number for a 1962-1966 Buick 401. 1196914 is a head casting number for a 1959-1966 Buick 364/401/425. You really need the number off of the valley pan rail of this engine to narrow down the date. Is the engine pictures the one you are considering as a replacement? I see a road draft tube so that would make it previous to 1963. The 1962 and newer Nailheads (other then the 65-66 Gran Sport Skylark) uses a mid sump oil pan while yours has rear sump. You would just need a rear sump pick up tube and to reuse your 61 pan to make it work. Your replacement engine also need to be previous to 1964 as 1964-1966 Nailheads had a crankshaft made for a ST400 transmission. You need the crankshaft made previous to 1964 to fit your Dynaflow transmission. I see a Dynasflow flexplate on the engine I think you want to use to replace yours. That is a good thing.

Clear as mud, right?

IF I remember correctly the '61/401 pickup & oil pump cannot be used on the '62 engine as they are designed differently. '62-'66 are the cutoff years. Better do your research on this BEFORE putting $$$$ down for the engine & the shipping costs.

Tom, He could use his rear sump pan from the 61 in place of the mid sump pan on the 62. If his 61 rear sump pick-up wont fit the 62 pump, he can use a 65-66 GS Skylark rear sump pick-up on the 62 pump for sure.

Steve,

That I know I just wanted him to be aware there are going to be some mods that will need to be done. May be easier for yourself & myself as we somewhat kinda know what were doin'.
I have those pick-ups in stock.
