Hello
I want to install a newer straight eight in a 1940 Super.
If they have one piece exhaust manifold is this this the right motor.I found a 1950 1952 and 1953
in a yard ,is any of these years better to rebuild.
thanks
Brian

If they have the one piece exhaust manifold, it will fit. The one thing to watch is the tranny. If one of the engines you are looking at has a stick trans, that is the one to use. The dynaflow equipped engines do not have the input shaft bearing. If the all have sticks, use the 53 ,as then you will have a 263 with hydraulic lifters, and insert bearings.

How about the front motor mounts? I think they changed in 1948, but am not sure if the newer blocks have provisions for the early mounting system?
