Help Decode MY 1947 Buick Roadmaster

Can anyone help decode the vin on my 1947 Buick Roadmaster. I have not had much luck searching the web.

I am wanting to know If anyone can tell me what shade of blue the car was, and what colour the interior was. Any other useful/general information you could let me know that would be helpful!!!

Hi there,
I've got a 47 mod 51 in Australia in about 1000 pieces at the moment.
You can get the outside frame of the bonnet latches from Bob's or CarsInc. Not sure which one. I bought 2 and they were great.
Google buickfarm for NOS chrome trim. Again I got a few pieces there recently.

39?? Buick Super Dynaflow

Hello, Im new to the site. Im trying to debate on buying a buick or not. So I found this forum & the more I have L@@K around the more im thinking about buying this :shield:. I believe its a Super Dyna Flow cause thats what is on the steering wheel. I am told it has a straight 8 engine w/ automatic tranny. PNDLR... I found the vin tag on the door pillar & i believe by looking @ it, this is what I am coming up w/...

I cant c the engine tag plus there is another engine block in the trunk. So Im gonna go by the vin on the door pillar if anyone can help me.
Ive been told its a 49 Buick Roadmaster 2dr w/ straight 8 engine. Is any of this correct? Thanks & god bless.

The serial number only gives you very limited information. 15266315 is a serial number for a 1949 Buick built at Flint, MI. The information from the body tag on the cowl of the car or pictures of the car would be required to determine what model it is (Special, Super, or Roadmaster). Based on what the steering wheel says, it is a Super with a Dynaflow automatic trans (but it can't be both a Super and Roadmaster).

We can't positively ID the car without a picture unless you give us the info off the firewall plate. That's the one which says Fisher Body on it.

However, if you were told it is a 49, that's probably what it is, because the 49 was a one-year-only body style for Buick and it doesn't look anything like either a 48 or a 50. Super and Roadmaster are easy to tell apart - just count the ventiports on the front fender. Super has 3 and Roadmaster has 4. Don't go by what it says on the steering wheel because that part is very easy to swap.

K it has 3 ports. I been looking on youtube/google & Im about 95% its a 49. 1950 & newer all look alike a little. 48 is def not what this one looks like. So im sure its a 49. I also researched the wheelbase & came up w/ 126".... Now would a Small Block Chevy V8 fit w/ a automatic tranny? Its still got the straight 8 in it & the automatic tranny. I have a 95 Buick Roadmaster w/ a LT1 & 4L60 tranny I would like to put in the car, computer, harness, etc. I also have a 92 Buick Roadmaster 350 throttle body V8 that I could put in it instead. But I like to know if the V8's will fit or need to make mounts, brackets, etc etc. Thanks for responding back to me so soon. Thanks & God Bless.

The Chevy engine and transmission will physically fit in the car, but you will have to make the mounts and just about everything else. In addition, you will have to replace the rear axle and rear suspension in order to get rid of the torque tube drive.

Your 49 Super wheelbase is 121". If the 95 Roadmaster WB is anything close to that, it might be less work to put the 49 body on the 95 chassis. You will end up with a car that rides, steers, and stops 50 years better, and it will be a lot easier to find mechanical parts when you need them.

k all this info is so much help!!! Thank you. Now if I would decide to pull the body off & put on a new frame, what would b my options. My 95 was a 4dr sedan that I derby & don't have except engine/tranny/rearend. My 92 roadmaster was a estate wagon that I sold for a derby to a guy but kept the engine/tranny. What other kind of vehicle frames could i possibly use for this 49 & my wheel wells to line up perfect? I have a 88 GMC 1500 Sierra 2wd. standard cab/long bed frame. I have a 90 s10 2wd, standard cab/long bed. Also if i were to switch engine/tranny/rearend out, what rearend would interchange? Thanks & God Bless!!!
