i plan to make up some headers for my 263 sraight 8.what size exhaust tube should i use, would 1 5/8 be ok as i have a set of sb chev headers i was going to use.so far i have had the head shaved, bb chev intake vales fitted and ported.i also have electronic ignition and have an edmonds intake manifold on which i will run 2 97s. i had the cam reground and run soild lifters.did anyone drag race these engines and what tricks did they have.

Where did you have your cam reground? Is it stock or performance? After reading up on cam regrinding, it seems that there isn't much room for improvement in performance when regrinding a stock cam. I have read that only up to about 4 degrees in lobe seperation and .020 inch lift (.030 at valve) difference from stock. It seems that if they go much more than that they will grind through the hardened portion of the lobe.
I am going to check into having a cam made from billet so they can go as wild as I choose with lift and duration.

I had the cam ground at a place called Kelford Camtech in nz.
Camlift .255
valve lift .383 duration at .050 camlift 204
lobe separation 110.
