fuel pump 1967 Lesabre

Hello, I recently bought a fuel pump that's specific to a 4 barrel carburetor. There is no 3rd outlet for a return line.
Is it necessary to have a return line as long as the PSI stays in or around 7?
Not sure about this, any help would be appreciated.
Thanks Jeff

The return line is for AC equipped cars to prevent vapor lock in the summer heat. You should be OK without unless you have AC.

thank you for your response! I thought since there is no return to the tank, it would recirculate back into the fuel line. The one I ordered was from old Buick parts and apparently they replicate specific pumps and I’ve got stock A/C on this car, that’s currently inoperable, but I was under the impression there were pumps for 2 and barrel carbs....

Buick caused the confusion on the '67 small-block V8 fuel pumps. Sometime during the '67 production run, the factory discontinued the tank return line and 3-line fuel pump on the 340 4bbl with A/C. This resulted in a 1st and 2nd type part number for the pump on these engines. Other 300 and 340 cars with A/C used the return line setup and 3-line pump all year. Many aftermarket part suppliers likely got mixed up following this mid-year change.

See attached page (group 3.900) from the Buick Master Parts Book printed in '72 for more info. In any case only two part numbers were used on the small block V8 and V6 pumps that year. The difference being with or without the return line pipe.

really such an amazing reference! And I appreciate your reply, very much. I specifically ordered for a 340-4 with AC, less fuel line return. Part #2. I’ll let you know how it works out. Thank you so much for that. Jeff
