i have a 62 skylark with a 215. this engine is givin me a headache. does anyone know another engine that would just bold in to the the car?

a 90's era Land Rover engine would probably be the best combination of modern tech ( fuel injection, serpentine accessory belt ) and ease of installation. you can get a 3.5L ( which is the metric displacement for the 215 ) up to a 4.6L fairly easily.

i believe the Land Rover kept the 215s proprietary bell housing so you could also grab a transmission from one of those.

What about a 300/340?
That would give a modern bell pattern for a 200R4/T5.

At least thats what I'm thinking.

the Buick 300/340/350 would all be good options but they all have taller decks so he might run into some interference issues clearing the exh manifolds, steering shaft, etc. you are correct that they would open up BOP pattern transmissions from the Dynaflow to a 200r4.

an 80s Buick v6 turbo would also be a near bolt in. there would of course be some issues with routing the turbo ducting. the v6 also has the 300 deck height so it will be somewhat wider and taller than the 215/Rover.
