Cold valve and warm air

If you looked at the chart above, you noticed that everything is based on the ambient air temperature, You don't mention what the temperature is where you are working, The Chassis manual pressures will be for R-12, 134A pressures are higher if it has been converted.


So the ambient air temperature is 70 degrees, your engine is warmed up to 180 degrees, your engine temperature is making everything hotter the ****, your acceptable pressures will be higher.

Start with a cold engine, note the ambient air temperature and charge the system to the static pressure recommend. Then start the car and look at the pressures.

Every couple of charges you should add a little compressor oil.
 
I have measured the pressure in the system this mornig after the car has been shut off the whole night. Outside temp is around 71-72 F, pressure in systen is around 74. Looks like I have enougt refrigerant in my system.

Is there a way to check if the compressor is bad or if its something else, like the expension valve?
 
Well, that looks about right, but, if it were mine, I would add some and see if the pressures behave.
I looked back, you believe you are still running R-12, have you looked at your "sight glass" when the compressor engages. Wipe the glass on your receiver-dryer, unplug your compressor, engage your a/c at max cold and blower at max.. Start your engine, look at the sight glass, plug in your compressor and watch for bubbles, there should be none.
