has to be 72, specifically? i mean, if you're willing to get Stage heads, it sounds like factory numbers matching isn't that big of a deal to you.

Yes it’s a 455. I believe the stage 1 heads use the same casting number

I would need both heads if they are stage one, don’t want different size valves on one side of engine.
Just install the larger valves.
No need to find another head.
That's the way Buick did it.

i think you'll want matched heads regardless, unless you happen on a 1972 had that matches your existing.

Seeing as how so many different parts of the Buick big block family were desirable depending on which year the engine was made I was wondering "What production components would you pick if you had your choice"? Now, obviously, Stage components will whip up all over normal production run stuff...

Yes, my 72 455 is a numbers car. I just want the parts to all work correct together. So if I get a head and it a Stage one I would just change the valves on it. But I would like the same casting numbers. What are the AIR holes about I hear some heads have ? Do all 72’s have them? Do those heads interchange without mods? My car does have an air pump on it. It was from Cal.

you don’t need any chamber grinding?
you need the valve seats enlarged to mate with the larger valves. otherwise, no.
