My first Buick was a Chevy. In 1962 I bought a 1952 Chevy Fastback. About the same time I came across a 1955 Nailhead V8 attached to a factory 3 speed manual transmission. Weirdest thing: There was only one lever sticking out of the side cover. That had me stumped. But, Chevrolet blessed me with this huge tunnel cover for access. Try finding a floor shift for one of those. At 16, I found a piece of water pipe, slid it over the lever and banged it in place with the first hammer within my reach. From behind the wheel, it was a long way down to that 12" long galvanized lever-like device. But, it did work. A few years later when stationed in Oklahoma while on duty in the USAF, I found a second manual tranny complete with bellhousing, flywheel etc. This went into a 55 Chevy behind a 1957 nailhead.
For the life of me, I don't know how I solved the shift mechanism thing.
Later years I had a 1979 LeSabre Turbo Coupe, my first 1976 Skyhawk, then a 1996 Regal with factory blower, then a Lucerne with a NorthStar then the second and Current Skyhawk running a Small Block Buick 350. And recently the 1967 Skylark came along. It's a cruiser with interior from a 2005 Bonneville AC, and cruise.
Buick and GM in particular, I liked them until they pissed me off. The Lucerne was it for me. The NorthStar water leak was supposed to have been fixed in 2007. I lost more money than a usual trade in for a car purchase allows. I bought an Acura TL in 2011. Mainly due to the good results Honda provided wit their bikes and how my friend's Honda vehicles were for them. Other than normal maintenance, I never repaired a single item. Whem my rusted out 2000 Blazer gave me one fit after another, I sold it. I bought a used Ridgeline. It's been two plus years with nothing but normal upkeep. My enjoyment with Hondas started with a 750 4 cylinder in 1972. That carries on today. We had a Goldwing 1500. for almost 20 years. It was a true marvel of engineering. But, at 78 years of age, it was time to stay with the relative safety of 4 wheels. I'm retired. The only cars I want to play with are my Buicks. With the exception of , a bathroom remodel here, something else there, etc......, I'm still a Buick guy!
