battery disconnect solenoid

Hi,
Anyone here using a continuous duty solenoid for a battery disconnect. If so - where can I purchase one that will hold up to the amperage draw of a 6 volt straight 8 ?

Are you planning to run the starter current through this relay, or everything else except the starter current?

if not the starter current, something like this would be a good choice.

If it has to carry the starter current, I think a continuous duty relay is going to cost you lots of $. The Ford or Mopar solenoids that you might be thinking of are not designed for continuous duty and the relay coil will overheat if it is powered up for any extended length of time.

I would like to run the starter circuit and all thru this continuous duty solenoid. Driver will flip a toggle switch in the car to connect battery. Similar to this one, but it is 12 Volt.

That's a nice piece. I can't say I have ever seen one like it for 6V.

Ok, how about splitting the load? Use a Ford or Mopar solenoid to carry the starter current only and run everything else through the 60A relay with its own junction block. Put a jumper across the BAT and SOL terminals on the Buick solenoid and operate the Ford/Mopar solenoid with a separate push button or other momentary contact switch fed from the 60A relay. Come to think of it, you could also use this setup with the stock gas pedal start feature if you still have it.

Nice idea to split the load! I am going to pull the 10 gauge main feed wire from the starter battery post and run that circuit thru a continuous duty solenoid activated by a hidden toggle switch. This measure is for theft deterrent and for protection from electrical shorts when not around.
