'67 LeSabre Coupe interior rear view mirror / factory trunk mat

Hi Buick-ppl,

got two questions regarding my '67 LeSabre Coupe:

1. My interior rearview mirror is kind of "dull", full of tiny grey spots - its a pain to use it. Is there any direct replacement available? Or does anyone have an idea how to maybe replace just the inner mirror part?

2. The car is missing any trunk mat or carpet. What did the factory part look like? Was it just a simple cover for the trunk floor or were there (separate) pieces to also cover the forward area "underneath" the backseat and to the sides?

Cheers,
Harry

This is a convertible but will give you an idea of what it looks like. Houndstooth vinyl. My 67 Wildcat coupe has this same style.
Cheers

The mirror is a fairly common non-glare type used on GM cars around that time. Due to the non-glare construction and the day/night adjuster knob, replacement of just the glass is not feasible. The GM part number is 3633013.

There are plenty of originals and reproduction mirrors available on the Internet especially when searching under Chevrolet parts. Some reproduction parts have a black finish instead of the original chrome finish.

@Ted:

Thankyou! So its a basic trunk liner - like a simple plastic mat that just covers the trunk floor and the part above the rear axle? Is this one part or two? What about the sides to the rear inner fenders/quarterpanels?
Do you maybe know of a source for such a mat?

Over that I assume that I'm missing some kind of inner cover for the rear lights. When I open my trunk and look down, I can see the lamp sockets/wires, which looks rather shabby. Is that "factory state" or is there something missing as well?

@TODD:

Thanks too, thats just what I needed to get a replacement!

Cheers,
Harry

Harry,
The Buick Parts Book shows the trunk lining of the 1967 LeSabre 2 dr hardtop consisted of a one-piece mat part no 7677882 for the floor and a foundation (fiberboard panel) no 7693119 for the vertical area at the rear seat back diagonal braces. Both these parts had the houndstooth pattern seen in Ted's photo.

Exposed sheet metal areas were painted with a special trunk paint, likely black/aqua splatter paint no 1051499 to harmonize with the houndstooth pattern. See attached catalog pages.

Costlier Buick models had additional pieces of trunk lining using better materials. The Electra 225 and Riviera had additional foundations at the sides, hinge boxes, and rear end panel (tail light area). The floor covering on these upper models was a trim made of felt/carpet material, typically in multiple pieces.

This site shows trunk lining items for Buicks:

Www.fusickautomotiveproducts.com

And at this one:

Www.oldbuickparts.com

Failing those options, GM houndstooth vinyl and foundation material is being reproduced for trunk kits on other makes like Chevies as well. The pre-cut kits would not fit Buicks, but these suppliers might offer bulk materials for you to make the Buick pieces.

Your mat seems to have a somewhat greenish hue - is that "authentic" or due to age? I'd expected something in pure grey colors...

@TODD
Thanks heaps for all your info! So far I was only able to either find trunk mat sets for other (Buick) models or "wrong" ones for my car (e.g. https://www.ebay.de/itm/133688583376). My idea is now to find carpet/mat material with a similar design/pattern and then cut my own mats.

Cheers,
Harry

Hey,

I'm still trying to get an authentic and fitting trunk mat. So far I did not find any parts directly for '67 LeSabre, just for '68 LeSabre (Convertible):

As far as I know the '68 LeSabre has the exact same rear/trunk as the '67, just a different tail light design. Is this correct?
How about differences between 2 door/ convertible? Could this be a problem to fit a "convertible trunk mat" into a 2 door coupe/hardtop car?

Cheers,
Harry

Old cars contain many surprises so it is risky to think the rear end/trunks are exactly the same except for the tail lights. The parts book does show the mats are the same part number for all body types of 1967-68 LeSabre (series 5000) and base Wildcat (series 6400).

There are pictures to review on line of ‘67 LeSabre 2dr hardtop cars for sale that still have the original trunk mat. These examples compare well to the convertible mat shown above. The one difference appears to be the hole cut in the right center of the convertible mat. This hole is for the spare tire anchor bolt. The 2dr hardtop mat does not need this hole due to different mounting of the spare.

The seller can advise if he has a hardtop mat without the anchor bolt hole. As a double check, he could give overall rough dimensions and a picture of the mat.

TODD,

thanks for the info and especially the detail difference between convertible and 2dr trunk mats!

The ebay seller however does not have any info regarding the mat he is selling (not even a picture)...so its some kind of lottery to buy here.

Cheers,
Harry
