I bought this 67 gs400 from one of my childhood best friends dad. Have had lots of memories with this car growing up! After buying the car over 12 years ago and saving money it is finally getting done. First pictures are when I rolled into shop summer 2019. Was suppose to get summer 2020 but covid put a hold on that. Car will be done summer 2021!

We thought the body wouldn’t need to much work because it looked in good shape before we started. Well we were wrong and had surprises like any restoration! Pushed in driver rear quarter panel, whole trunk rusted out, normal rust on wheel wells. Frame was tweaked and needed to be straightened in press.

Unfortutately they ALL look good on the outside. You NEVER find out until your into it.

Just a part of life.
Bet you don't remember that it was crashed & that it was filled with bondo from tthat crash.

Funny, that I did a 4 year frame off, 90% resto finished in 88. Had a few good years going to local car shows, as a work in progress till 1991.
Then career demands..life responsibilities.. etc etc..Now I and the son in his mid 30s are playing catch up. We dropped a Offenhauser 360 intake, with a Holley 4bbl 390 cfm on the 225 V6, after installing "Melling Engine Parts" new oil pump gears, push rods and lifters. The interior will be last.
It's ironic that it's far easier getting reproduction interior trim, (those rear seat chrome courtesy lamps with the plastic lenses..(on the sail panels) and numerous other body parts such as reproduction rear quarter panels, floor pans, trunk floors. NOW that it's a classic !! Back in the 80s the salvage yards still has some old 60's and 70's.. trickling it. You had to know which models shared some of the same running gear, suspension, interior parts, much of which was worn more than the part you already had. Not to mention, the assistance of the internet re searching nationwide vs trudging up and down rows of wrecks. There was no such thing as doing an inventory check for parts from your desktop / smartphone the value of comparison shopping, vs maintaining a rolodex or index card files, and word of mouth. That was a major value in going to swap meets...

I will admit the internet and computers have made it a bit easier! But i have found you have to be careful on ebay buying certain parts that say they fit and they don’t! But i like the swap meet part of finding parts though. Get out and meet people with same interest and its fun too!
