67 GS 400 is running way hot

My sunpro gauge measuring the water temp was out of wack.

hah. did any of us mention to double check the gauge?

yeah, you can never trust any of these ~50 year old electronics / hydraulics very far. :D

Hi All
My 67 Riviera 430-4 is also running hot at slow speed and Idle, I do not have a fan shroud on it at the moment and it sounds like from reading the posts it is a nescessity.
I can get one from America but it is very expensive to get it here to New Zealand.
Does anyone have the measurements for a fan shroud that will fit my 67 so I can print one, I have some cleaver friends that have the ability to print the shroud in two or four pieces.
Proving very hard to get any type of measurements.
Any help would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks

Here is the TA Performance Catalog page for fan shrouds,

If you do not have a TA Performance catalog, download a pdf here,

One of the first things to check when the engine runs hot at idle and low speed is ignition timing. The initial timing is relatively retarded. That will make the engine run hot all by itself. Check to make sure the vacuum advance is working correctly. Hooking it to manifold vacuum will boost idle timing and make the engine run cooler.

Thanks Larry, Much appreciated

Last followup.......

Car seems to be running well after all of that work and about 2000 miles. My sunpro gauge measuring the water temp was out of wack. I put in a new water temp gauge and that reads 190 degrees even at idle. i
I appreciate the thoughts on the rear main seal issue as I never thought sbout the torque converter. I will look into that.

Thanks everyone. Can't maintain this car without you. 👍
Some of the gauges are cheap, they don't last long. The rope seals, upon absorbing oil will swell up to seal. So, oil seepage is normal. A shop with "parts changers" makes a lot of money passing their mistakes on to the consumer to pay on incorrect diagnosis.
