Does anyone have an idea where I can find a headlight door motor for a 65 riviera? i bought one from a guy in MI named Randy Rymal and what he sent me was what I thought was a rebuilt unit. I installed it and after it kept blowing fuses and relays it just quit working. I pulled it apart and found that It had never been rebuilt and was completely rusted up and seized.

I guess you live and learn. Can Anyone come to my aid?

Have you tried to contact him and work it out? FYI he does have a website:

http://rymalsrestorations.com/

If you are member of the ROA (recommended!) you have an avenue there too as he also advertises in the clasified there. Send him a message via Ebay with the complaint. Did you pay via Paypal?

There are several other vendors for the headlight motor advertised in the ROA classifieds. Since he's not that far from you, check out Larry Daisy at: http://www.ranchoriviera.8m.com/

First I lost the wiring instructions and called him to see if he could send me some. He refused and said "they came in the box". He was very rude and after escalating things he finally sent them to me. Oh did I mention that I paid him in november and after 6+ calls finally recieved my parts in january. I wish I would have reasearched his name on the net and found out that he really does have a pretty shady history. People like him do not desreve my time and money especially when there are so many hard working, credible, and honest people in the restoration parts industry.

Thanks for the other leads I will check them out

He can be a bit crotchety... He is also a vendor for Clarks Corvair, in which they will stand behind things properly, even if HE doesn't. The problem is, there aren't that many vendors for our application.

The wiring diagram is also posted on his website. There is a WAR AND PEACE bulletin for the clamshells you need to get your hands on. It is available for free to members in the ROA Library. (Have I plugged the ROA- Riviera Owners Association enough? LOL!)

Thanks Erik for the help. I got ahold of larry at Rancho Riviera and he was more than helpful. More important he is in my own backyard and I can deal face to face.

I will check out the ROA as I havent ventured there yet.

65 Riv headlight motor

I have a good core. I'm going to take to my electrician to find out if the motor works. Aw-ight?:jeez:

Just a follow up FYI:
Mr. Rymal was one of the first member/dealers barred from any association with the ROA, and is NOT a current advertiser in the Riview !
He burned far too many bridges, and has had several evilBay names in his 'seller' history.
"Buyer Beware", when dealing with this individual !!
Check out the ROA website at www.rivowners.org as Erik has recommended.

I was actually able to fashion a 65' riv power window motor to replace the burned up headlight motor. They are the infact the same motor however it was nessesary to machine the armature shaft. I did this over 20 years ago and can't be specific to what I did to the shaft, but I can say the worm was machined off & a flat was milled in on the end. I will say it's not rocket science to see what was needed to be done, simple, very doable, and it worked perfect & looked OEM. I probably needed some of the headlight motor output end housing parts to swap, this is where my memory fuzzies up. I recall the end housing is a easy bolt-up swap.
