56 AM to FM conversion?

hello,

The tubes finally went in my Delco AM. Instead of putting $300 into repairing the Amptitude Modulation tubes, I'm thinking about maybe switching to Frequency Modulation.

Are there any radios out there that are "FM" that will fit right in place? Or do I have to re-wire the internals?

any help would be appreciated.

thank you,

Derek

here's what i did..

when the Wonderbar went out on my '60 Electra and I found out how much it would cost to refurbish it and have AM only, I paid less to use an underdash unit (with CD changer and amp in the trunk) and keep the original radio in the dash.. I use the dash speaker for the L channel and a single "correct" rear shelf speaker for the R channel. Then I ran the Wonderbar lights wire into the dash light so it comes on when the lights are on but it is disconnected. Today I have replaced the cd unit with a receiver that has the USB thumb drive port so I have tons of pure 50s music that never skips (like CD's do), and the dash is still intact..
