What steering gear lube to use since specified lube is not available?

There are old school high pressure lubes, such as 140 weight StayLube and Penrite steering lube, neither of these should not leak out. Then there are the light weights, Lucas, STP and Royal Purple, these come in 75/90 or 80/90 and 90/140. finally there are heavy lubes such as John Deere corn lube

I would have just used a 90 weight gear oil
The only reason anything should leak out is the seal or the sealing surface of the leak is damaged. An oil choice shouldn't make any difference except in the speed at which the oil can seep through the flaw.
