455 swap into 70 skylark

I need some advice on putting a 455 into a 70 skylark convertible. I am deleting the old AC as the car is a convertible which I will drive only on perfect days, and I don't need the extra weight anyway. The problem is that the non-AC heater blower assembly on the firewall side obstructs the heater core inlet/outlet tubes at the firewall. A Year One tech says I'll need to find a big block heater assembly for under the dash, and modify my existing firewall. Is there a better way? I'm not looking for concourse restoration, but I don't want to hack my car up if I can help it either. He said this particular application is screwy because 1970 was a strike year, and some assembly line irregularities occurred that year.
