231 V6 FWD compatible parts with RWD

Does anyone know what internal parts from a 84 -85 Buick V6 321 FWD block casting number 25524139 will fit in a 87-88 RWD casting number 25526109?

I’ve been thru this forum and know that the transmission mounts are different, but no details about cams, cranks, rods, lifters, and so on

I bought a rebuilt 84 – 85 FWD long block dirt cheap thinking I could use the internal parts for my 87 – 88 RWD engine. I’ve looked all over on the net and not getting a clear answer. I just don’t want to tear this rebuilt engine apart to find out I can’t use the parts. I know the oil pan is different when I tried to bolt it on my RWD engine. This got me thinking what is different between FWD and RWD.

How about heads, FWD casting 25506299 to RWD 25518445? Thanks for any info!

What oldfoneguy said. I refer to the Rock Auto listings as the encyclopedia. It isn't infallible, but can be very helpful for checking things like this. I hope Caps 54 lets us know how he makes out.

thanks for the Rock Auto idea. it has crank bearings but not the crank, some said that the cranks could be different. Heads work, along with lifters. But not sure on the rods or pistons. Ant other ideas?

Honestly I question the heads. Yes they will mount up no problem. It's the attaching points for the accessories that I doubt will work from one to the other. I would think the water pump is different too. I've never done what you're doing, in fact I haven't even laid eyes on a RWD 3.8 since the early 90's. Good luck! 👍
