1966 Electra spitting gas out the carb.... HEI Vacuum Advance tuning?

I recently performed an HEI points conversion on my 1966 Electra, only with the help of you kind folks here, and at v8 buick! I got to the point where all is hooked up properly, but left to go south for vacation, so didnt have the chance to fully finish. I cranked it once and fired, yet ran very rough, which I contributed to the vacuum advance needing adjusted. When I returned, I started the process and before I go too far, wanted to see if i should be concerned. I put a little fuel to start up because it sat for a while, and cranked with it firing. It still ran rough, but also spit some fuel back out of the carb, so I shut it off and came here just in case it was something more severe........ Is it due to the vacuum advance being too far retarded, the opposite, or something crazy? It ran wih no issues before the HEI fyi. Can anyone give me an idea if this is normal? Thanks!

The vacuum advance is not required. You can disconnect it and plug the hole in the carburetor until the car is running nicely. When the car is running properly, you can reconnect the advance and it will require no additional attention.

Have you timed the car with a timing light?

Wow, ok! Thanks Bob! Ill do that now:) No, I don't own a timing light and am looking at them now to purchase, unless there's a more primitive way to do this.

Try rotating the distributor Counter Clockwise to give it more advance. See if it fires and runs smoother. The vacuum advance is irrelevant at this point. I'm surprised you would even attempt this without a timing light. You need one yesterday.

Lol, thats why I didnt and ran my sorry self back here. I don't put that much faith in myself with this and good reason, lol! Ive learnt alot from you guys, truly. I feel I know my girl in and out now. I just like to ask before making a move im not sure of.
