Hi.. I have a '64 skylark... 300/2bbl engine. There is someone online selling a complete 300/4bbl engine for $500.. I am considering getting just the intake/carb/air cleaner off of it and swapping onto my engine.

Does that make sense? Is $500 a reasonable price? I would be buying the entire engine, but to save shipping, he would remove the parts I want and scrap the rest of the engine...

Your 64 300 has aluminum heads and intake. The 65 300 has iron heads and intake. The intake and intake runners in the heads are different sizes between the years (64 is smaller). A 64 intake can be made to fit the 65 iron heads (although restrictive), but the 65 manifold is blocked by the intake ports when bolted on the 64 aluminium heads.
