Coming soon: a fantastic new head for the 263!

Yes, the pent roof Soft head design can be used with Singh grooves, but the above picture illustrates a very high compression ratio. I was pointing out that the total chamber volume needed for a 10:1 compression ratio was around 61cc. The resulting design would look something like this...

Which is better for high performance / durability / parts? 263 or 320?

Here are all the hole locations for the 263 head. If you use a footprint of 32" long and 6.8" wide, the measurements reference from the front driverside corner. This will get you started before you get a block. Paul

Which is better for high performance / durability / parts? 263 or 320?

There are some unique features on the 263 that aren’t found on the other Buick S8s The 263 has ribs that extend from bottom of the water jackets to the crankcase as shown by the arrows in the picture. This will help you tell at a glance whether you are looking at a 263 or something else like a...

Which is better for high performance / durability / parts? 263 or 320?

The 320 is easy to identify because it measures over 34” along the top of the cylinder head The 263 measures just under 32” Obviously the 320 gives a displacement advantage over the 263 but in many cases (like ours) it is too long to stuff into the engine compartment of most vehicles. The...

    320 Combustion Chamber volume

You need 89 cc in the chamber including the head gasket thickness for 350 cu in displacement with 9:1 compression. Figuring on a 3.5 in round chamber it would be 0.56 inches deep. Subtract for head gasket thickness brings it closer to 0.5 inches in depth. Here is an aluminum chamber we did for...

12V fuel sender with 24V gauge

It looks like the original sender used 3 connections where terminal 1 is one end of the rheostat, terminal 2 is the wiper of the rheostat and terminal 3 is the other end. The total resistance of the rheostat limits the current through the gauge so it reads right at full, while the wiper of...

12V fuel sender with 24V gauge

Do you have an ohm meter? I would like to see what the resistance is between terminals 1&2 and 2&3 on the guage. If the positive side of the battery is connected to #4 and the negative side of the battery is connected to the Buick sender terminal which is the same as terminal #1 on the gauge...

Performance enhancement for Newbies - any good guides?

Thanks for your reply. You are correct. If a total rebuild is part of the project then the 455 can be brought up to 70 specifications omiting the 75 and 76 cylinder heads.

12V fuel sender with 24V gauge

You are correct as far as the operation. The heat being generated in the gauge is a function of wattage which is volts times amps. So if you cut your voltage in half you also cut your amperage in half giving you only one quarter of the original wattage. Again just try it and see what you...

12V fuel sender with 24V gauge

12 volts may not be enough to give the gauge the full reading. If you have both the sender and the gauge, just wire them, apply 12 volts and operate the sender to both extremes and see what happens.

Performance enhancement for Newbies - any good guides?

I get the feeling that you would really prefer to stay with the 300 (The old friend) if it could get good economy, enough power to be fun and be reliable. Consider the following: The 300 is the lightest of all the engines mentioned above. Restoring the 11:1 compression ratio and using lower...

    Custom cam for 263

Aluminum Head for 263 Have one person restoring a 1933 Victoria 2 door and another doing a 1952 Woody Super. Both have decided to stay with the straight 8 rather than going the V8 route. For show purposes it was decided to use a 263 with a cylinder head that still maintains the resemblance of...
