Got my AFB Rebuilt by Tom Telesco and runs great

A few years back I entrusted Tom to rebuild a rare pair of dual quad AFBs from a 66 MZ code Riviera. He did an outstanding job and was nice enough to bring them to a Riviera meet and install them on the engine. The first time I ever talked to Tom on the phone, he didn't know me from Adam but...

1968 Buick Riviera Heat System Restoration

There is no aftermarket heater core made for the 66-70 non-A/C cars. Used is not an option even here in the states. The core (center portion with fins) can be replaced in your existing one same method as doing a radiator re-core. Most shops that re-core radiators can do heater cores. Hopefully...

    timing on 401 and 425

Hey Tom - you were the reputable source I was referring to :hurray:. I was studying the timing curves in the shop manual. According to the chart for an auto trans, the vacuum adds 10 degrees for a grand total of 40 initial, mech, and vacuum. But under the specifications page for the "max...

    timing on 401 and 425

I'm repeating what I was told by a reputable source. Originally vacuum advance added about 20 degrees but limiting it to around 10 is better for a grand total of 42 My 66 425 also had a rubber bushing (barely left) on the vertical post for the vac advance as well. Note the rubber bushing on this...

Trans flush on 67 Electra auto

I've heard different feedback on flushes. I determined the outcome has alot to do with the type of flushing machine and the experience of the operator. With a flush, the filter typically does not get changed nor does the sediment get cleaned out of the pan. You'll need to specify if you want the...

Need help with a 1973 Riviera VIN location

The earlier (late 60s) Rivs had the VIN stamped on the frame on the driver side near the driver floor board front but they were not visible unless the body was off or someone very creative figured out a way to see it. Not sure where they would be on the 73 but suspect its there somewhere. The...

    1970 Wildcat convertible

Bryan, First of all, thanks for your service to our great country! Father knows best! The most I would pay for it is $700 and thats under the assumption it would be parted out. Besides all the sheet metal work needed, everything else you go to work on the chassis will be rusted...

Need Valve Train Help - 425

I am rebuilding a 66 425 and am working on the heads. The guide clearances are in spec as well as valve stem diameters on the original valves. The valve guides look original. Any sure 100% way to tell if they have been replaced? The rocker shafts are worn on the bottom to where there is a...

    Satin vs. Flat vs Matte

Flat is no gloss at all and has no shine when light os cast upon it. Normally a matte finish is one that is uneven or having slight texture appearance but that could depend largely upon the manufacturers terminolgy choice. Satin has a slight amount of gloss when light hits it but less than a...

    l chrome rims for a 66 riviera

Dip, I'm looking at date codes now. See if there is a code stamped on the back of the wheel, maybe near one of the slots. Possibly in the form of a larger letter with a smaller number inside it. There are also codes visible inside if the tire is removed. It was raining all evening so I was not...

    l chrome rims for a 66 riviera

Yes, for now a close up of the front and back side of one wheel may help.

    l chrome rims for a 66 riviera

Well, yes according to info on the ROA website but I personally have not verified the info. Ironically I just bought a 66 Riv parts car and 3 of the wheels have a 2" center hole but also measure 3.5" down to the lug hole. I do know for a fact that 66-70 wheels have a 2-1/8" center hole and...

    l chrome rims for a 66 riviera

OK I had it backwards. :clonk: If the measurement is 2-7/8" down it is the 71 and later wheels. If its 3-1/2" down its a 64-65 wheel.

    l chrome rims for a 66 riviera

The centers look like 1965 but the wheels look like 71-76. The center hole is 2" for the 65 and 71-76 wheels so the centers will interchange. Its slightly larger, like 2-1/8 or so on 66-70 wheels. If you lay a straight edge on the rim from bead to bead (kind of hard to do with tires on) then...

    Testing power ant. ?????

All I do is set the motor up on the bench or clamp "lightly" in a vise. Setup a 12 volt source. I often use my small battery charger. Ground the frame of motor with negative lead and touch one of the two power terminals on the motor with the positive. You'll need to determine what direction its...

Stockton Wheel in CA Paramount Wheels in CA Wheel Refinishers Inc. in MD and MI Wheel Techniques in CA Here are just a few of the major wheel refinishing places that claim ability to do any wheel. l chrome rims for a 66 riviera

Chris, The term "aftermarket" and "originally came on the 66" is sort of in conflict with each other. I will assume you refer to the style wheel that norwegien66 posted. These were factory optional wheels. As posted, the 66-70 year range wheels will work on your car. There is however some...

425 Engine Wear - What is Normal

The brake pad has some wear but not enough either way to say for sure. If it was mostly 127k highway miles I'd guess the pad wouldn't be worn much but if it was all city driving at 27k there could be some wear. I did check the brake reaction rod bushing as well as the upper control arms and...
