New Project

First straight 8 for me - I'm looking forward to the journey.

I have a 1951 Buick Special. It's possible that the motor in the car is not original to the car. The length of the motor seems to indicate 263 but the placement of the stamp on the motor makes it seem like a 320. The number on the motor is 63789944. Elsewhere on this site that seems to indicate a 1938 motor?

If you can help identify the motor - that would be great.

I'm also looking for references to anyone who sells parts or services to add power to this motor. The motor just sounds amazing as it is but I'd like to know my options. I hear of dual carb setups and superchargers, etc... The car itself is not ever going to be show quality but I'd like to bring it to life.

Thank you very much for any guidance you can provide.

According to this, your number fits a '51 series 40.

I uploaded some info on a 263 engine build which might help you start in the Projects forum:

Enjoy the build!

Welcome!

Bob has confirmed a 263 engine. Pictures of the driver side would further confirm.

I warmed up a '51 263 for my 1950 Special. Not cheap, but WAY more satisfying than any swap. I did after market pistons to increase the compression to 9.5/1. Bored out to 85 MM. Had the head done with larger valves and pored some. Supercharging has been done. I have never seen one. Mine is pretty snappy. Not big v8 snappy but not a dog.

Stay with us and ask all the questions you want.

You'll find I'm not bashful. It sounds like you are where I'd like to be with your motor. I'd love to see it in person some time. I'm in Green Bay, WI but I travel for work frequently.

Except for the homemade intake/exhaust manifold looks pretty normal. If you get to No Texas, holler.

I just attached a picture of my 263 with headers and 4 side draft su carbs. I have 3 motors all at the rebuilders in Landcaster California. I will likely have extra parts, blocks heads etc. we plan to do a little head work a add a cam ground. I have a thread under 1927 buick speedster. There is lots of good info on your 263

Can I ask who the Lancaster firm is? Do they do power ups like superchargers?
