'47 Super Engine

Is the engine the same in the '47 & '48 years, all series? What series is the Super? Is that a series 40 or 50? Where can I find a good article on Buick engines of these years with specifications etc? The VIN on my Buick is14755148. Don't have a service manual for this year.

Your engine would be a 248, a Super is a Series 50

Yes mine is a series 56C convertible. Haven't done anything to it since I picked it up other than an attempt to start it, and see what condition the engine was. Has one bearing that is rapping loudly and another cylinder with hardly no compression. Reason I posted is that a fellow locally advertised a '48 engine for sale. It has a two speed auto trans attached. I believe this was only available for the '48 Roadmaster correct? It would have had the 320 cu in engine rated at 133 hp whereas the Super had 110 hp. I am curious of what changes were made to the engine to get this increased horsepower and if this engine is the same length etc to interchange with my engine. His price of $300 is fair I think, although the engine is froze up.
Bob you have quite an operation in Canada I see. I tried to call you but no answer. I live in WA and not too far from you.
I also have another engine problem. You don't do any babbitt bearing work do you?

keep in mind the 320 is longer and I believe the mounts are different. the crank might also be different if 3 speed vs dflow.
 
The end of the crank is diff. between the DynaFlow & manual shift. The 1st. yr. for the Auto was 1948. A 320 WON'T fit without major mods as it is about 6" longer.
