Along with the VIN number, the engine block is stamped with an engine production code. The code has a prefix series of letters and number that identifies the engine and year, then a four digit numberic production sequence. On the V-8 engines, the production code is stamped on the right front of the engine block opposite the VIN number. On the V-6 engine, the number is on the front of the block below the left cylinder head gasket.
