  1. Engine ID....HELP!!!!

Hi, hoping that someone can help me...totally new to this sight...I just bought a really cool 75 chevy Luv with a Buick V-6 and auto tranny...checked the engine id guide on this site, but couldn't find any answers..
On the back of my motor near the tranny are the numbers, 1254088 followed by an oversized number 2.
On the front of the intake manifold are the numbers B-1254143-3. Are these numbers of any use? I noticed that the guide stated that the numbers are to be found on the front passenger side of the block, but of course, it's nice and dark out right now, so I will have to wait til tomorrow to search for those...
Thanks for any help anyone can give me...

  2. this page lists a "1254083" :

it could easily be a middle 70s casting. which puts you uncomfortably close to the 75-76 "odd fire" engine.

  3. thanks, I think the guy did say that it was an odd fire motor...are these bad motors? Is there anything about them that I should watch out for? Not really going to hot rod this truck, just use it as a daily driver...Also, I looked for numbers on the front passenger side of the motor and couldn't find any...thanks again...

Nothing bad in the sense of durability or reliability. The complaint that some people (not me) had about the odd-fire engine was that it runs somewhat roughly when under load at low speed.

With an automatic, you aren't terribly likely to notice this, except maybe when the engine is idling in gear.

  5. also, the odd fire is not going to have quite as much in the way of parts.

most people build the even fire simply for availability and prior art in development.

    you should be fine then.

another possible source for the engine MAY be Kaiser-Jeep. Kaiser owned the Buick v6 production equipment from ... 1966 ( ? ) to 1974 and placed the Buick v6 ( at the time a 225ci and odd fire ) and Buick 350 v8 engines into several different models of Jeep. AMC did away with the Buick engines when they bought Jeep from Kaiser.

i would think it would be pretty odd for Kaiser to have been using the same casting number sequences as GM though.
