Thread: Trim Tag Stuff

  1. Trim Tag Stuff

    New guy here and first time Buick owner. Just picked up a 65 Buick Special V6 Vert, lots of questions, let me start with the Trim tag. I understand some of it but not all, here’s the data. What’s it all mean?

    03D
    ST 65-43467 KAN 641 BODY
    TR 028- Y-2 PAINT
    W 2XP 4Y 5W

  2. http://www.teambuick.com/reference/years/65.php

    03D = body build date = March (03) 1965, fourth week (D)

    ST = style
    65 = 1965
    43467 = Fisher body style number = Buick Special 2-door convertible
    4 = Buick
    34 = Special
    67 = 2-door convertible

    KAN = body built at Fisher Body plant in Kansas City
    641 = sequence number unique to body, no relation to VIN

    TR = Trim
    028 = Black Vinyl
    After the dash following the trim number there is usually a letter that indicates the front seat type. If the letter isn't there it probably means the car has the standard bench front seat.

    Y = Bamboo Cream paint
    2 = black convertible top

    Option Codes (group # followed by option code letter)
    1W = Tinted windshield
    2X = auto trans
    2P = Back-up Lights
    4Y = Moulding (Deluxe lower)
    5W = Seat Belts With Retractor

  3. Thanks so much for your quick reply; allow me to ask another question. Where are the codes located on the rear axal?

  4. I don't know for sure, but I'm guessing it is the same as '66. There is a complete service manual for '66 on this site:

    The rear axle file is here and there is a picture on the second page that shows where the codes are:
