I have a '39 business coupe and just spent two months locating a shift cable, I found two and bought both, as I understand the cable is unique to '39's, the first year of column shift.

I'd like to move the shift from the column to the floor, can you swap a '38 for the '39 trans? Any kits available for the '39 to move the linkage to the floor?

Hello Gunner,

If you ever change your transmission to floor shift and want to sell those '39 shift cables, please let me know. The cable in my '39 is working, but fairly rusty on the outside, and I don't think it has ever been replaced.

I'll keep you in mind! From what I learned from experience is that it is the end that attaches to the trans itself that breaks. One of the cables that I bought showed evidence of earlier repair.

yes i have changed a 39 century to a 37 floorshift. you can install the 39 gears into the floor shift box, or you can just use the 39 output shaft, and 39 rear bearing retainer. The 38 is the same. And I think the special trans is the same kinda swap.

Thanks for the info on the swap, now I just have to find a '38 trans and shifter. Any thoughts on where to start looking?
